Welcome to IQVGA
Queer games are out there, but they're easy to miss. Here's why I built a place to find them, and how you can help it grow.
Hi, I'm Curtis. Welcome to the International Queer Video Game Association.
This site is a directory of queer video games from all over the world: games made by queer developers, games with queer characters at their heart, and games where you can play your story as queer. Every game is checked, and every listing links to a source.
Why this exists
Queer games are out there. Some are huge releases and some come from tiny indie studios. They can be hard to find, though, and the best ones often get buried.
That's because store pages and social feeds are run by for-profit algorithms. They push whatever already sells. A small queer game from a two-person studio doesn't stand much of a chance against that, however good it is.
I know this from experience. I run Cafe Empty, a queer-owned indie studio in Sydney, and I made Newfound Courage, a pixel-art adventure about a young gay man falling for a kind-hearted local. Making it showed me two things: how much people want to see themselves in games, and how hard it is for those people to find the games made for them.
Making space
I love Stardew Valley, The Last of Us and Dragon Age as much as anyone. But games like those have huge audiences well beyond our community, and their popularity tends to crowd out the games made specifically for us, by people from our community.
Here, those games get an equal footing. You'll find big names in the directory, but the heart of it is queer games made by queer people.
What you can do here
- Browse the directory. Filter by sapphic stories, stories about gay men, trans and non-binary characters, love stories, genre, country or whether a game is out now.
- Tell us about a game. Made one, or know one we've missed? Submit it. Corrections are just as welcome.
- Claim your game. If you made a game in the directory, you can claim it, keep the listing up to date yourself, and book a spot in the featured games.
Who we list
A game belongs here if it has meaningful queer characters, or if it was made by openly queer developers. We only ever say a developer is queer when they've told us themselves or said it publicly. We never out anyone.
We list complete games: released, in early access, or on their way to release. Games from anywhere in the world are welcome.
This is just the start
The directory will grow with your help. If there's a queer game you love, tell us about it, and tell your friends about this place. And if you're making one, we can't wait to see it.
Thanks for being here.
